Body weight

Here discuss the weight of the body.
Basics of health status. It is important to periodically measure the weight and identify changes.

BMI

Body mass index (BMI) is one of the international standards that represent the size of the body proposed by WHO and calculated by the formula: weight (kg) ÷ pm high (m) ÷ height (m).
The standard BMI body mass index ranges from 18.5 to less than 25, and it is said that if the index is too large or too small, the human body will be susceptible to infection.

※ Adopting new financial standards in 2000 “Japanese Health 21” by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Affairs

Body fat percentage

Fat accumulates in the body called body fat.
Body fat percentage is called the body fat percentage and is expressed as body fat percentage (%) = body fat mass (kg) ÷ body weight (kg) × 100 When excess body fat is too much, it will cause obesity.

Determine the percentage of body fat

Appropriate body fat percentage varies according to age and gender.
Tanita uses the method of DXA (double X-ray absorption method) in medicine as a method that can be measured by segmenting the body with high accuracy and is used as an analytical standard. Body composition in recent years.

Check your body status with body fat percentage analysis by gender and age based on the following analysis. The measurement results of Tanita body composition analyzer are based on the measurement value of DXA method, and there is a great correlation between the two methods.

Table of analysis of body fat percentage by ages 6 to 99
* Created from DXA (double X-ray absorption) method based on WHO standard and obesity assessment results of Japan Obesity Association
※ The evaluation criteria for children depend on the percentage of DXA body fat, based on the obesity assessment of the Committee for Obesity Prevention for Japanese Children
※ If you are pregnant or are on dialysis, or have edema symptoms, we recommend that you consider changing the useful references.

The amount of visceral fat

Fat inside the abdominal muscles, around the internal organs is called visceral fat.
Regarding metabolic syndrome, excessive accumulation of visceral fat has a major effect on lifestyle diseases such as cardiovascular disease.

In Tanita’s body composition analyzer, the visceral fat state is indicated as the level of visceral fat.

Criteria to determine the level of visceral fat

Muscle mass

Muscle mass is the mass of muscle tissue that helps you hold your posture and move your heart.
According to statistics, muscle mass tends to increase until about 20 years of age according to the growth period, then gradually decreases with time. When muscle mass increases rapidly during growth, a balanced diet and proper exercise are important. For healthy adults, when muscle mass is reduced, energy expenditure decreases, so fat becomes easier to accumulate, which also causes lifestyle diseases. Try to continuously combine moderate exercise every day and prevent loss of muscle mass after middle age and older age.

Determine muscle mass

Muscle mass is calculated based on body height. The higher the height value, the greater the muscle mass.

※ Not applicable for subjects under 17 years old

Determine body fat and determine muscle mass

Based on a combination of body fat percentage and muscle mass assessment results, we can classify the body into 9 categories.
Try training goals based on the body shape you want to get, from which to control meals.

※ Evaluation of muscle mass differs from muscle quality evaluation.
※ There is no rating display device

Muscle mass score

Muscle mass score is the ‘muscle quality’ score that is evaluated according to the score (0 to 100 points).

Until now, we all know that muscle mass decreases with age and lack of exercise. However, in recent years, the tendency to increase the quality of non-muscular fibers such as collagen or muscle fat has been of great interest.

Muscle is made up of protein fibers that are able to contract in both directions and aggregate tissues (water, fat, connective tissue). “For young children, muscle mass will be small and soft, and in stages. body development, muscles become thicker and stiffer, and then gradually decline with the aging process.
It is thought that both “muscle mass” and “muscle quality” (muscle state) “will affect the likelihood of muscle weakness and reduced physical function. As a result of many years of research, Tanita has succeeded in applying technology to assess the state of this muscle tissue in a real way. I named the condition of muscle tissue as “muscle quality”, and developed “muscle mass evaluation points” as a new indicator for analysis.

Evaluate muscle quality on a scale (from 0 to 100)
※ In the following cases, it may be incorrect to assess muscle mass:
・ When your body is exhausted or swollen
・ When your body can dehydrate or reduce blood flow

Left and right measurement

It measures muscle mass, percentage of fat, etc., not only for the whole body but also measures the body part (right arm, left arm, right leg, left leg, trunk) people).

By capturing body characteristics and specific body composition data, you can build a training program that is appropriate to the conditions of the body and the parts that need to be focused on training, helping body improves more.

Basic metabolic rate

The energy source needed to use for basic living activities (breathing, cardiac activity, maintaining body temperature) is called the basal metabolic rate.

The basic metabolic rate is “the minimum energy level needed to live”. When we are physically and neurologically in a state of rest, the respiratory system, the cardiovascular system, the nervous system and organs such as the liver and kidneys are still active and consume an amount of energy certain.

The total amount of energy consumed per day is the sum of the basic metabolic rate plus the wasted energy for day activities (including moving activities & daily chores). The energy consumed by this basic metabolism will increase to about 70%.

Skeletal muscle has the largest energy consumption in basic metabolism compared to other fat-free body tissues.
You may think that the basic metabolic rate is greatly affected by that person’s muscle mass. So, compared to people with the same weight, people with low fat and high muscle mass have higher basic metabolism and more energy to consume.
Exercise muscles contribute to an increase in basal metabolic rate. In addition, in general, subjects with high muscle mass, and those with higher basic metabolism tend to have less weight gain.

The basic metabolic rate varies depending on the individual’s physical condition (fat, thin, muscle, etc.), age, gender. For that reason, calculate the basic metabolic consumption per kilogram of body weight, compared to the average for each age, “low”, “standard (average)” and “multiple” classification to Evaluate basal metabolism.

Age of the body

The age of the body represents the age close to the body composition and age trend of the basal metabolic rate.

Based on the “basic exchange value standard (basic exchange rate per body weight)” of the “Japanese Diet Standards” developed by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Affairs , calculated from the age trend derived from Tanita’s original research.
The relationship between basic and age exchange standard values is shown in the figure below, decreasing from day 20 to 40, and it tends to be near stable. from 5os onwards.

The relationship between basic metabolic standard values and age

Even with the same weight, the body age varies depending on body composition. The higher the muscle mass, the higher the basic metabolism, the smaller the age of the body. For example, even when the actual age is 40 years old, there is a large amount of muscle and high basal metabolism, and if at this age still reaches the basic exchange standard value as at the age of 20, Your body age is also about 20 years old.

The amount of water in the body

Water in the body is the moisture contained in the body and in the blood, lymph, extracellular fluid, intracellular fluid and the like.
Water in the body is the ratio of water content in the body to body weight.

The amount of Water in the body in men is often more than that of women and also tends to decrease with age. Besides, people with a lot of body fat usually have less Water in the body; and people with lower body fat often have high Water in the body. (The amount of body water changes based on age, gender & body fat so)

Water in the body content & human body fat percentage is in the appropriate range, men are about 55-65%, women have about 45 to 60%.

If you’re on a diet to lose weight, it’s not just body fat, but also water. Therefore, to keep the body’s standard fat, be careful not to overdo it, which will affect your health and body water.

・ After exercising, after drinking alcohol & after bathing, body temperature and water will be greatly changed. So you should not measure component indicators at this time but wait for your body temperature to return to normal to get the most accurate results.
・ The measurement of body index immediately after drinking water is not accurate, because the amount of water that has not been absorbed by the body is then completely.
・ Avoid measuring in fever, severe vomiting, continuous diarrhoea, but measure when your body is stable

Estimated bone mass

Bone plays an important role, such as supporting the body and protecting internal organs and brain. The amount of minerals like calcium contained in the whole bone is called “bone mass”.

Precisely, we can call it “bone mineral density”, but in Tanita, “bone mass” is often used, and estimates are based on correlations with muscle fibers rather than substances. fat (lean mass). Since then, estimated bone mass is shown.

Bone does not seem to change, but in fact they repeat the metabolism of the activity, supply the calcium that the body needs, and create new bone.

Bone-related problems, such as the unreasonable diet of young people in need of increasing bone mass, or as bedridden elderly lead to a decrease in bone mass are problems Common topics. Bone has a close relationship with muscles, so excessive exercise or lack of exercise both causes a decrease in bone mass. So maintain and promote muscle and bone thanks to proper exercise regimen and scientific diet.

As with muscle mass, bone mass increases with increasing growth rates, especially rapidly increasing adolescence, peaking around 20 years of age, and then tends to decrease with age. If you have an unreasonable diet during growth, you will not be able to store enough bone mass and risk the possession of weak bones later on. It is important to focus on increasing bone mass during the growth phase; supplement the right amount of calcium even after the growth phase, take moderate sunbathing and continue exercising, to increase the maximum bone mass.

※ Because the following people may not have the correct conditions for measuring the index, try making the reference value for the final value.
· Osteoporosis with low bone density
· Elderly, menopause
· People who receive sex hormones
· If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
· Children in the development phase

※ “Estimated bone mass” is a statistically estimated value based on correlation with non-fat body weight (tissue is not fat). “Estimated bone mass” differs from “bone density” and does not directly estimate bone stiffness, bone strength, and fracture risk. If you are worried about bones, we recommend consulting a professional teacher.

MBA rating(Body analysis index)

Compared to the data of more than 1,000 athletes, the “MBA rating” will determine the balance between muscle quality and the athlete’s muscular characteristics.

There are many “muscles” related to the body’s moisture and electrolytes, and muscle fibers will also show how well your workout level is. The characteristics of muscle cells are also known to be different from those without exercise. Based on the muscular characteristics of these athletes, the MBA assessment is based on the electrical properties of muscle fibers, the balance of intracellular and liquid fluids, muscle balance by location, and so on.

There are all 4 standards worth the MBA. Compare the condition of your muscles close to the criteria below.

· Beginners: This is a muscle trait that is seen by people who do not have the exercise routine or just started exercising.
· Amateur: This is a person who is exercising daily and is trying to maintain his body shape.
· Selling athletes: I am a muscular person who grows at a level close to a professional level.
· Professional athletes: This is a muscular feature of the same level as a professional athlete.

※ This analysis index is created for professional sports athletes with high muscle mass compared to body weight. If the body’s balance of body mass is low, the evaluation result may go to Beginners mode.

※ Because the resistance of body weight and body fluctuates according to the difference of each stage, there are different fluctuations for each individual. Furthermore, because the measurement results are greatly affected by changes in body water temperature and body temperature, we recommend measuring at the same time and in the same state as much as possible. not changed in detail and see the trend of long-term change.

Movement

“Movement” is the percentage of muscle mass accounting for the body weight, compared to the same age, it is evaluated and displayed in 4 stages (Judging on a scale of 100).
The muscle mass of the leg tends to decrease with age. By identifying your status objectively, these assessment indicators will help you understand the results of daily walking and exercise and maintain motivation.

The power of beautiful legs

We display 100 perfect points based on the muscle mass of the leg occupying how much body weight and the importance of leg muscles.
At Tanita, healthy, slender legs or slender legs but moderately balanced muscle fat is defined and evaluated as “beautiful legs”.
If your legs are muscular, you don’t need to squeeze your legs and your legs are also hard to swell. Muscle is also an important factor in wearing high heels. If your leg muscles are of the right weight, it will be easy to help you achieve high scores.

Percentage of fat under the skin

That’s the ratio of subcutaneous fat to body weight.
Subcutaneous fat plays a different role to visceral fat, which contributes to the feminine, soft & moisturizing body curves, creating a clean body. However, if there is too much fat under the skin, the body curve will be “destroyed”, and if the fat is too little, you will not be able to protect yourself from temperature and other effects. Create and maintain a moderate percentage of subcutaneous fat.

Pulse measurement

We measure the number of pulses per minute simultaneously with body composition measurements.

The average pulse rate is one of the information needed to calculate the optimal workout intensity for you. By recording the trend of normal heart rate, we support the implementation of high quality and optimal exercise according to the ability of the heart and lungs.

“Pita ride” feature

This is an automatic feature that distinguishes a person thanks to the body’s weight and electrical resistance.

Until now, many cases need to be measured squat or before crouch. But if using the body composition analyzer with the “pita ride” feature, the measurement will automatically start right after you gain weight, then the result will be displayed.

When you use a body composition analyzer, the device will identify who is using it
* Just log in personal information for the first time.
* Measurement time varies depending on measurement conditions and samples.

Pita Ride Plus feature

In addition to the Pita Ride feature, it is an auto-correction function that occurs when measuring the body composition clock placed on the floor.

Even when standing upright, the operation button is unnecessary. Just gain weight and do not operate anything.

V Pita feature

Turn on the power and grasp the clock analyzing the body composition. This is a function to automatically distinguish the resistance value of body weight and body part, then display the result. This feature is available at some models that can be measured on the right or left.

Diet for women

By entering the menstrual cycle, the device’s feature will tell you the proper diet & opportunity for dieting.

In the female body, there are four stages: follicular phase, ovulation, luteal phase and menstruation, due to changes in hormonal balance. If you disregard this hormonal rhythm and carry out an excessive diet, it will cause the opposite effect, you can become “gooseishi” (excessive lean).
Know the rhythm of the body, let’s eat and drink reasonably.

If you need a high precision body composition clock capable of measuring body weight in 50 g units, we won’t miss even a small change.
Small efforts will also show up in results, so we will maintain our daily motivation.

The 50g change is easy to understand

Impedance technology

This is a technology to measure the balance between intracellular and extracellular fluids.

The body composition meter measures the impedance (resistance value) of the body, but in conventional impedance measurements, only numerical values for which resistors and resistances are synthesized cannot be obtained.

Biological tissue consists of extracellular cells and fluid filling cells, and cells include intracellular fluid and cell membranes. Intracellular, intracellular and extracellular fluids are resistance (resistance) components and the membrane is the capacitive components (reactance), expressed in the equivalent circuit as shown in the figure.

The equivalent circuit model of living tissue

By “reactive technology”, by measuring resistance and reaction alone, it can increase electromagnetic tissue information and capture cell-level changes in living tissue.
As a result, we succeeded in analyzing reflecting individual differences and reducing the effect of body moisture fluctuations during the day.

For details on the detailed measurement of body composition, please refer to “Body composition index principle”.

Dual frequency measurement

This is a more advanced measurement method than impedance technology.
Currently, the most accurate measurement method is measuring on two frequencies: high frequency and low frequency.

Tanita incorporates the advanced technology of professional body component parts used in the medical field and research facilities into household body components.
We continue to conduct common single frequency measurement and dual frequency measurement (= two types of frequencies) used in the medical field for body composition watches. This contributes to assessing the quality of the muscles.

For details on the measurement method, please refer to “Body composition indicator principle”.

Dual frequency measurement is further improved from single frequency measurement

Athlete mode

This is the body’s body measurement and exercise routine.

The studies at Tanita indicate different body composition between adults in general and athletes.
To make the measurements more accurate, we developed the “athlete mode” for the athletes to calculate the measurement results using a dedicated calculation formula.

People who are seen as “athletes” tend to have larger muscle mass and larger skeletons than those who only train on a daily basis. In addition, the amount of water in the athlete and adult’s muscles is also different.

In Tanita, people who meet the following conditions are defined as “athletes” and we recommend measuring with “dedicated athlete mode”:

· People who practice for 12 hours or more each week
· Participants in sports organizations and sports business associations and competitions etc.
· Professional athletes
· People who practice are increasing muscles like bodybuilders

This is a feature to adjust the regional gravity difference.

The weight is displayed low when it approaches the equator due to gravity.
If in Japan in Tokyo, Hokkaido and Okinawa are using the same ratio, the weight will be displayed gently. This is because the centrifugal force due to the rotation of the earth becomes the maximum on the equator, and there is a difference of about 0.5% between the north pole (south) and the equator.
The regional setting function is to eliminate the effects of such gravity and allow accurate measurement in any area.

The function supports accurate measurement

If the pulse measurement result exceeds the normal range, the “* (asterisk)” will be displayed in the body composition result.

If the heartbeat is fast, for example, immediately after exercising or taking a bath, and beyond the usual time, we will notify you by displaying the “* (asterisk)” in the measurement results screen.
For more accurate measurements of body composition, we recommend measuring in normal conditions, avoiding exercise and bathing.
